Consumer Highlight: Jillian Darwin

Hi my name is Jillian Darwin. I’ve been employed by Ability Counts since 2012. My favorite thing to do is scrapbooking, watch movies, shopping, and cooking.

My scrap-booking is very, very good. I scrapbook pictures of vacations, pictures of family. When you scrapbook, you take a sheet of paper, you get glue or glue dots and you put it on the back of the photo you want to use. Then you stick it onto the paper and you decorate them with stickers, glitter, and markers. It’s very simple.
I like to make them with my friends.

I’ve been out to Texas, and in the past, when I was five, I went to Hawaii. My sister goes to Cal State San Bernardino. She’s going to graduate, hopefully. I have a brother too. He lives in Redlands and goes to University of Redlands. He wants to be an accountant. My mom works at a dance store all the way in Fountain Valley.

I like to go to the movies with Chad and I’ve seen Winnie the Pooh, all the Star Wars movies up to Episode VII; I’ve seen the Marvel movies. There’s a whole lot, too many to name.

I also like to watch baseball, and my favorite team is the Dodgers. I haven’t been to the Dodger Stadium
yet though.

Spotlight On: Maricela Torres

ACI: How long have you been with Ability Counts?
Maricela Torres: I have been working for Ability Counts now for about 10 months.

ACI: What got you interested in this field of work?
Maricela Torres: I got an interest in ACI, because I really enjoy working with people and helping them in whichever matter needed. For years I would come across clients with different challenges and disabilities and I can always say that they were very caring, determined, hard working, individuals.

ACI: What’s it like working with people that have disabilities?
Maricela Torres: I enjoy coming to work everyday just knowing how happy they
all are to see me and I am to see them as well. I enjoy helping them in any work related situation they come across. I try to give them positive feedback daily on how hard working they are and what a wonderful job they do.

ACI: What are your hobbies and things to do outside of work?
Maricela Torres: I enjoy spending time with family and friends during functions were I get to see the family together and just enjoy the blessings God has given us. I also like listening to music and I love to go dancing.

Spotlight On: Jaimie Bonseigneur

ACI: How long have you been with Ability Counts?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: I’ve been working with Ability Counts for over 3 years now. But my cousin has been a consumer for ACI for 20 years, so I’ve been attending family functions here since I was a little girl. When I dropped my cousin off at ACI, I had asked if they were hiring and I applied. Since then Ability Counts has been my second home!

ACI: What’s it like working with people that have disabilities?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: Being a Job Coach is a very rewarding job. It still amazes me how unstoppable the consumers are when it comes to their work. They love to learn new things and to know when they are doing well and how they can do better. Working with them is defiantly the best experience I could ever have.

ACI: What are your hobbies and things to do outside of work?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: On weekends I love to hang out with my family and find new adventures to go on. We try to stay active and go to the park or on bike rides or even a trip to the mountains. When I’m not doing that you can
find me hanging out at home enjoying life with the people I love.

Bowling With My Friend

A couple of weeks ago I went bowling with my good friend Jessica. Bowling is one of our favorite activities to do when we get together because it is very fun, although I have to say I have a bit of a competitive streak when I play but I don’t like to show it in front of Jessica. We had a really good time and we both got a couple of strikes and spares. Jessica and I played three games and once we were done my Mom took us both out to lunch. I had a really good time with Jessica and I hope we can get together again soon.

Until next time,

This is Brittany Yeager signing off.
