Spotlight On: Jaimie Bonseigneur

ACI: How long have you been with Ability Counts?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: I’ve been working with Ability Counts for over 3 years now. But my cousin has been a consumer for ACI for 20 years, so I’ve been attending family functions here since I was a little girl. When I dropped my cousin off at ACI, I had asked if they were hiring and I applied. Since then Ability Counts has been my second home!

ACI: What’s it like working with people that have disabilities?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: Being a Job Coach is a very rewarding job. It still amazes me how unstoppable the consumers are when it comes to their work. They love to learn new things and to know when they are doing well and how they can do better. Working with them is defiantly the best experience I could ever have.

ACI: What are your hobbies and things to do outside of work?
Jaimie Bonseigneur: On weekends I love to hang out with my family and find new adventures to go on. We try to stay active and go to the park or on bike rides or even a trip to the mountains. When I’m not doing that you can
find me hanging out at home enjoying life with the people I love.

Spotlight On: Blake Shimshock

ACI: How long have you been with Ability Counts?
Blake Shimshock: I have been working for ACI for 8 years as their Multimedia Instructor.

ACI: What got you interested in this field of work?
Blake Shimshock: The director at the time and I spoke on the phone and he asked if I was still making independent films and doing photography. I said yeah. He then explained to me that he wanted to start a media enclave.

ACI: What’s it like working with people that have disabilities?
Blake Shimshock: Working with our consumers is rewarding to me. I like how they get really excited when I show them how to do something cool with the cameras or in editing. It’s cool to watch their skills grow and how they work together as a team.

ACI: What are your hobbies and things to do outside of work?
Blake Shimshock: Well as most people know, I’m an independent filmmaker. Outside of the day job as they say, I do a lot of filming and still photography. I’ve been doing lighting and camera work for other people’s independent films. I also draw digital art. I am also writing a few Sci-Fi Fantasy screenplays.

Spotlight On: Alma Reyna

ACI: How long have you been with Ability Counts?
Alma Reyna: I started working for Ability Counts on November 2009 but got hired through the company on August 2010 so I would say going on 8 years.

ACI: What got you interested in this field of work?
Alma Reyna: Well my Mothers brother had Epilepsy and I remember as a child I was terrified of him. So when a high school friend mentioned to me about the job I thought it would be nice to work with them since I never had that bond with my uncle, having passed years ago.

ACI: What’s it like working with people that have disabilities?
Alma Reyna: Working with people with disabilities is definitely rewarding and fun. It can get challenging at times but I LOVE IT! Just seeing how kind-hearted and smart they are makes me love my job even more. I’ve learned a lot from them as well.

ACI: What are your hobbies and things to do outside of work?
Alma Reyna: My hobbies are dancing, listening to music, watching movies, cooking, going on family outings, riding our boat and riding our dune buggy. Most importantly spending time with my daughter and family!
